My new book!! (an Emma retelling, with dragons)
I'm revealing the cover and release date!
Hello! 👋 I wrote another book! It's titled Emmawyn and Her Dragoneer, and it's coming out on June 23rd!
Here's the cover!
What is it about?
It's a retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma (with added dragons and adventure).
Emmawyn Hartfield is a woman in control of her life. She has everything: a doting Papa, a cute dragon hatchling, an empire of illegal bookies working for her, and her best friend (Mr. Brentley Donwell) lives just down the road. She even has her love life figured out: she's never going to marry.
Her life is sliding out of control. Papa is disarmed by his nerves, Brentley won't stop arguing with her (it's not like Emmawyn is doing anything wrong), and her hatchling is strange in the most dangerous way.
Worst of all is how she's changing inside. For the first time in a decade, she wants to fly on a dragon. Now, her fear of the beasts isn't enough to keep her away from adventure. To top it all off, she's beginning to feel she might be in love.
How is this connected to The Dragoneers of Longbourn and Pemberley?
The books take place in the same world with crossover characters. You can read either book first!
Emmawyn and Her Dragoneer takes place after The Dragoneers of Longbourn and Pemberley. The main crossover characters are Merna Longbourn and Olivinta Pemberley, with appearances by Valeraine, Lelantos, and Mr. Pemberley.
Where can I find it?
Here's its Goodreads page! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/245056544-emmawyn-and-her-dragoneer
On June 23rd, the paperback and ebook will be on Amazon and the audiobook will be on all platforms!
Why I wrote this book
Writing a Pride and Prejudice retelling was always a warm up to writing an Emma retelling. Emma is my favorite of Austen's stories, and the closest to my own heart.
Jane Austen said, of her Emma, “I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like.” I'm so glad Austen was wrong, because I adore Emma and all of her messy flaws. It was a unique challenge to adapt the character of Emma — in all of her proud, controlling glory. I wanted to preserve the soul of the original character while making her a smidge more likeable (to have her fit better in a drama story, instead of the original comedy). I found a balance that I love, and I hope you will, too!
Years ago, I spent an eternity being too scared to ask out my best friend. What finally gave me the courage to do it was the story of Emma. If it worked out for Emma and Knightley, then why not us? So I asked him out, and now we're blissfully married. I know (far too well) the angst and drama of a friends-to-lovers story. I put all of those messy feelings of romance into my book.
I'm so excited to share it with you!
What I'm working on next!
I've got two projects in progress! I'm not sure which one will be finished first. That depends on how I'm feeling inspired over the next six months :)
However Improbable: a Sherlock Holmesian paranormal romance
I'm about halfway through the writing process of this one! It's a duology of novellas following a modern day detective named Ingrid Holmes and the demon familiar she accidentally acquires. They solve mysteries and fall in love (in a very slow burn kind of way).
A Persuasion retelling: a Dragoneers of Kinella novel
I'm outlining this novel right now! It's in the same world as my other Austen retellings. There's a teaser for it at the end of Emmawyn and Her Dragoneer, which gives some hints to the plotline.
